Great idea when you combine macros with GExperts' Macro Library system. Just dock the Macro Library frame on the IDE and save the IDE layout. Now when you create IDE macros, they can persist between IDE sessions. The Macro Library system can also allow titling the macro and adding a description.

[...] One will be recipes: detailed steps to get something done. Little or no theory — I won’t say much about why these particular steps. But I’ll talk about what the macro does, and when and why to use it. You’ve already seen this with my Fields to Properties macro recipe. [...]

Hi Joe, nice post.
I've written an IDE extension which lets you persist your recorded macros to a file. You can find it on CodeCentral: http://cc.borland.com/Item/19145
It still works in Delphi 2007. I find it especially useful when I need to convert some C headers to Delphi. I create and store a collection of macros to translate const, struct declarations etc. and reuse them as needed.

Hi,

Not sure if this is known but when I view your site in IE6, the left column (navigation) is drawn over the actual site content making the blog entry unreadable. Maybe you can test it in an older browser so more people can enjoy your blog.

Regards,
Jeroen.

I have been using a macro like this for ages but never thought of blogging about it. One hint, though: Instead of recording it again an again (and possibly getting it wrong every second time) you could use the GExpert macro library manager to store it permanently. It also lets you name it so you can have multiple keyboard macros. (If you don't like to use GExperts, there is a stand alone macro manager on code central that does the same). GExperts also lets you export these macros and share them with others or just move them to a different Delphi installation.
