I purchased a verizon RAZR last July and it broke so i had to buy a new one (luckily I had a warranty) this month. To my dismay, this cell phone has completely BLOCKED even saving a new sound and making it your ringtone. No joke...I can't even record something on my phone and make it my ringtone. It officially sux...and there is no way around it that I can tell.

Works with LG 8350.

I tried this method for a 50 second length, single channel (mono) audio clip with a 22KHz sample rate, 16 bit sample size and 32kbps bitrate. The file size came out to about 196KB. It sounded horrible on my phone but that was to be expected with the extremely low quality sampling and the waveform intensity of the song (a lot of fast percussion, brass section, vocals, etc.) With the same audio clip cut longer to 1 minute 3 seconds and a higher sampling of 44kbps, the file size came to 345KB. I was able to receive this bigger file on my LG 8350 but it didn't play in the message. It seems that the success of this custom ringtone technique is specifically dependent on the size of the file. I imagine this is for the sake of Verizon's bandwidth expenses. Thanks a bunch for the guide!

Works great on my new LG EnV2 Thanks a ton. 1 tip - - I've found that it's good to maximize the volume after you edit & save your mp3 as a wav (then resave of course)! I can't wait to create a special contact ringtone for my hony's (Flipshot) cell phone

hey it works on the Samsung SCH-u340.
For mac use Audacity to cut down the mp3 and save as wav...however, i there is no way to set the proper sample rate. To do this, download the free version of Switch, and set the quality of the wav to Medium.

You can't always send wav or mp3 ringtones to verizon phones.
One trick that i have found is the following

1) Sign up for free with this free ringtone site: Ventones.com

   http://www.ventones.com

2) Use their online ringtone maker and make a ringtone. You can also make a qcp type ringtone

3) Save / download the ringtone to your computer.

4) Buy a usb data card reader for your computer

5) Buy a memory card for your phone

6) Transfer the ringtone from your pc to your memory card, with the reader

7) Place the memory card back in the phone, and create new text message to yourself, with the ringtone as an attachment

8) When you get the message, Save as Ringtone

Ridiculously horrible quality, recording sound straight off the phone is better.

But wait!

V3m doesn't allow the assigning of sound files as ringtones.
